The Area
Arlanc
(Ar-len means "between two rivers in pre-Gallic) is situated in the
heart of the Parc Naturel Régional
Livradois-Forez, nestling in a valley, the region is
protected on all sides by the Forez and Livradois
mountains, and the plateau of La Chaise-Dieu. Three rivers run
through it... The inhabitants may well have met one day to find names for their
rivers, and no doubt afraid that it would be difficult to remember names that
were too different, and merely baptized them the Dore, Dorette and
Dolore.
Seven of
the ten churches in the Pays d'Arlanc were built in the 12th century.
About two minutes walk down the road you will discover the Eglise
St Pierre dating from the 12th century. A few minutes further the Musée
de la Dentelle (Lace Museum) and the unique Jardin pour la Terre.
At the Musée de la Dentelle you can witness the art of this ancient craft of lace making.
On the journey around the world in the Jardin
pour la Terre you will discover the various indigenous plants of every country
in the world.
